LThe Spanish Cultural Routes Association – which includes six major national routes – has been awarded funding from this plan for a project valued at a total of €200,000. The main lines of work to be developed will focus on creating new tourist experiences and enhancing “Crossroads”.”
The Spanish Cultural Routes Association has been awarded funding from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism's Experiencias Turismo España 2023 programme, totalling €200,000, financed by the European Union's Next Generation funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The inclusion in this programme will allow Rutas Culturales de España to develop a joint, attractive tourism product that will allow it to position itself in quality international markets. Specifically, the project presented by the association consists of the creation of a sustainable structure focused on the generation and consolidation of tourist experiences in so-called ‘Crossroads of Routes’, which, as their name suggests, are those towns or cities where two or more itineraries belonging to Rutas Culturales de España converge.
This way, the aim is to update the concept of cultural tourism, enhance its capacity to segment the target market and improve the positioning of itineraries as alternative resources to mass tourism in more established destinations.
The actions to be developed will identify tourism experiences based on cultural resources, which will allow the network to be generated and consolidated. A new web portal will be created, and a training and awareness plan will be implemented for local and territorial agents.
The President of Cultural Routes of Spain and Mayor of Zafra, Juan Carlos Fernández Calderón, has expressed his great satisfaction with European and Government support, as, in his opinion, the project “will allow us to take a qualitative leap in the positioning of our routes within and outside our country”.
Rutas Culturales de España is a brand supported by Turespaña that brings together the cultural and heritage offerings of the Rock Art Trails, Vía de la Plata Route, Roman Baetica Route, El Cid Route, Charles V Routes, and Routes of Passion: six major routes that traverse the entire Spanish geography and some of its most significant historical-artistic periods.
