LThe Spanish Cultural Routes Association held its Ordinary General Assembly on 19 November 2025 in the Begoña Ruigómez Room at Arredondo Town Hall, in Cantabria. During the session, the main lines of work and the economic plan for 2026 were presented, in addition to reporting on the activities carried out in 2025.

The Assembly was chaired by Juan Carlos Fernández Calderón, president of Rutas Culturales de España, president of the Ruta Vía de la Plata and mayor of Zafra, and brought together institutional representatives from the 8 routes that are part of the association (Caminos de Arte Rupestre Prehistórico, Ruta Vía de la Plata, Ruta Bética Romana, Camino del Cid, Rutas del Emperador Carlos V, Caminos de Pasión, Cluny Ibérica and Canal de Castilla) to evaluate the 2025 financial year and define the priorities for the coming year.

Crossroads
Throughout 2025, the Association focused its main activities on the ‘Tourism Development of the Cruce de Caminos Network’ project, funded by the ‘Experiencias Turismo España’ programme with Next Generation EU funds. This project achieved an implementation rate of 94%, with €188,016.68 spent out of the €200,000 budgeted. Within this network of ancient routes lie 11 destinations where two or more of the eight major cultural routes that make up the project converge. These are meeting points between civilisations, eras and landscapes, where travellers find not only heritage and beauty, but also the key to delving into an entire cultural universe.

Within this project, several main actions have been carried out across 11 destinations which are Crossroads: Alcalá la Real, Baena and Carmona in Andalusia; Burgos, Frómista and León in Castile and León; Cáceres and Mérida in Extremadura; Ramales de la Victoria in Cantabria; Albarracín in Aragon and Benassal in the Valencian Community. The actions have involved dissemination and promotion (new corporate website, signage, creation of a mobile application for gamification and tokenisation, and the development of various communication materials) and training (development of pedagogical material for educational centres and training for cultural mediators and other local stakeholders).

Spanish Cultural Routes

Rutas Culturales de España is a non-profit association that brings together 8 of the country's most important cultural itineraries: Prehistoric Art Routes, Silver Route, Roman Bética Route, El Cid’s Way, Charles V Routes, Routes of Passion, Iberian Cluny, and Castile Canal. Its work focuses on promoting these routes in the international market, in coordination with the Secretariat of State for Tourism and Turespaña, offering a unique proposal that spans from Prehistory to the present day. Its main objective is the promotion and development of sustainable cultural tourism, driving initiatives that connect history, innovation, and sustainability for the benefit of the territories and their communities.
