Discover Albarracínone of the most beautiful villages in Spain, where history comes to life among cobbled streets, medieval walls and landscapes to fall in love with. This corner of Teruel is an authentic crossroads that holds secrets from distant times: from impressive shelters with prehistoric rock art in the footsteps of the legendary Cid Campeador.

CROSSROADS: ALBARRACIN

At the time of the Cid, Albarracín was the capital of the Berber kingdom of the Banu Razín. In 1093 the Cid launched a retaliatory attack against their territories: in a scuffle in the outskirts of the city the Cid received a serious blow to the neck that almost cost him his life. We give you three clues to remember his story:

  • The CastleThe Islamic Alcazar offers spectacular views.
  • The Walls: Walk along its ramparts and defensive towers.
  • Living HistoryWalk through its streets and squares, with their organic, typically medieval architecture.

But Albarracín is much more than medieval. In the Pinares de RodenoA few kilometres from the village lies a hidden treasure of humanity: cave paintings from 9,000 years ago. Declared World Heritage Sites, these works show:

  • Animals such as aurochs and deerpainted in ochre, black and white, a unique technique in Europe.
  • Shelters such as the Bulls of Prado del Navazocompared to "a Levantine Altamira".
  • A magical landscapeThe natural museum is framed by reddish rocks and pine forests.
